Jean Fugett, Of Counsel

Attorney Jean Fugett, an Amherst graduate, received his law degree from George Washington University Law School attending school at night while in the NFL. He also worked as a Washington Post reporter and as a TV sportscaster during his NFL career. He has exhibited considerable financial acumen as Director and Vice-Chair of the McCall Pattern Company Management Committee, as founding partner of a Baltimore law firm, and as a partner with Fanfone in Europe. After the death of his brother, Reginald F. Lewis, in 1993, Fugett took over TLC Beatrice International Food, the largest black-owned and black managed business in the US. At its peak, TLC Beatrice had $2.2 billion in sales and was number 512 on Fortune magazine’s list of 1,000 largest. A highly sought after motivational speaker, who is also diabetic, Fugett spends much of his time visiting public schools, Children’s Hospitals, and taking part in football clinics for kids. He is also a NFLPA Certified Contract Advisor. He was elected to the NFL Players Association Steering Committee in 2005 and this is his first term as President.  He also played with the Dallas Cowboys from the period of 1972-75 and the Washington Redskins, 1976-79.
